A Sample Day at Hansel & Gretel
One of the children will ring a bell to signal to everyone that it is time for morning circle. There, they will sing songs and discuss the day's weather and the season. They also talk about the date and year, and count up to as well as doing a physical activity to the day of the month (important practice counting to 30 for kindergarten). There will also be some talking about the letter of the week.
At the end of circle, Teacher Phaedra will show the children things that the workday parents put on the tray to represent their activities for the day, explaining what is available for them to do. Then, one by one, she will call on them to choose their activity. The activities include a science lesson, and an art project about the topic of the week. There is also painting and play dough available. The children are encouraged to try everything before they go outside to play.
Free playtime follows, before the children are called in groups for story time. After each group finishes with story time, the children go to the snack room for a nutritious snack, and the next group comes in for story. After snack, the children have free playtime until the bell rings for closing circle.
One of the children's favorite traditions at the preschool is jumping over the candlestick and shaking Teacher Phaedra's hand at the end of closing circle.
